| Matt helped my family sell our home in Hampton, VA during our move to Texas. Prior to listing we interviewed a few Agents. Until we spoke with Matt all of the Agents said we should list our property for approximately what we owed on it. When we interviewed Matt he noted 1) we had done a lot of upgrades to our property that could positively affect the value and 2) the market was changing (May of 2013) to favor sellers. Because of this he felt our home could fetch much more than the other Agents had suggested. We listed a full $35,000 above what the other Agents had suggested as a list price. | When we were introduced to Matt and Chris we had lived in the same home for almost 30 years. Barb and I had begun and grown our careers there and raised our kids there. It was a wonderful home with many meaningful memories. But, with all of the kids out of the house (now with families of their own) the 4 bedrooms felt excessive. And, as our respective retirements began to creep closer we knew we wanted to not only down-size but to enjoy single-level living. The Shaw Team came highly recommended from a family member. After discussing our financial situation and housing goals with them we decided to purchase our new home before selling our existing home. Matt made us fully aware of the risks associated with buying before selling. However, both Matt and Chris felt that the market was shifting to favor Sellers and, because we had committed a budget to get our home list ready The Shaw Team felt we had minimized the risk. During our purchase Chris helped us find the perfect home. She patiently showed us multiple properties and coached us on how to craft an offer that would be accepted by the Seller(s) as most of the homes we looked at had multiple offers. We eventually purchased a perfect brick rancher in our desired area of Newport News. Meanwhile, Matt provided lots of advice on how to maximize our budget on the repairs and upgrades for the sale of our home. This included coaching on which rooms to upgrade (we elected for new bathrooms) as well as what paint colors and sheens to use, flooring suggestions, etc. The end result is that the house looked phenomenal. Matt took professional pictures and marketed the home online on all of the housing sites. We priced it at a point higher than any of the comparable homes that had sold that year. When we hit the market we averaged about one showing a day until we got a full price offer after about 10 days on the market.
